My
name is Tassmall Pittman. I am 17 years old, I am from Charlotte North Carolina,
and I am a senior at Olympic High School. I am involved with a group called
SADD (students against destructive decisions) and JROTC (Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps). I am very athletic and my
favorite sport is baseball. After I graduate I will be joining the army.
I
chose to focus my junior and senior years of high school on the issue of gun
control because I feel like this is an issue that people take for granted. If
we don’t make changes now, tragedies like Newtown will continue happening.
The stories featured in this book are unfortunately "what if" stories. These children are not alive, due to gun violence that could have been prevented. I chose to write these stories to provide a glimpse into the promise and potential that is taken each day due to guns. All of these children’s deaths could’ve been prevented if bans on high-capacity magazines were in place. It hurts me a lot to know that you are not even safe at school which is supposed to be a very safe place. That makes me want to home school my children some day. It doesn’t matter if we can save just one person’s life, it will still make a difference. As a high school student sometimes I don’t even feel safe at school. The children in this country belong to all of us and it’s out duty to keep them safe.
